You must remove the circuit card hold-down bracket when you replace internal system components including cables, circuit cards, memory module, and a standard power supply.

The circuit card hold-down bracket might use pushbutton fasteners or levers to secure the bracket to the chassis. Follow the steps for the type of circuit card hold-down bracket that is installed in your server:

Follow the steps for the type of circuit card hold-down bracket that is installed in your server:

Replacing a pushbutton-type circuit card hold-down bracket

To replace a pushbutton-type circuit card hold-down bracket:

  1. Pull up on the pushbutton fasteners to verify that they are fully extended. See figure Removing and replacing a pushbutton-type circuit card hold-down bracket.
  2. Position the bracket towards the front of the chassis, so the first pushbutton fastener is aligned over the 4th hole back on the inside rail.
  3. Hook the tab on the hold-down bracket over the outer rail inside the chassis.
  4. Adjust the bracket position so:
    • the pad on the hold-down spacer is over the tallest card, and
    • the holes in the central rail line up under the pushbutton fasteners.
  5. Push down on the entire bracket. If the fasteners are correctly aligned, it will snap into place.
  6. Push down on each of the pushbutton fasteners to lock the bracket in place.
  7. Replace the top cover and front bezel.
  8. Restore power to the server.

Replacing a lever-type circuit card hold-down bracket

To replace a lever-type circuit card hold-down bracket:

  1. Make sure the levers on the hold-down bracket are up. See figure Removing and replacing a lever-type circuit card hold-down bracket.
  2. Position the bracket so the pad is over the circuit cards.
  3. Seat the bracket on the lower part of the outside and inside rails of the chassis.
  4. Press down on the levers firmly to clamp the bracket against the chassis rails.
  5. Replace the top cover and front bezel.
  6. Restore power to the server.
