Configuration at a glance

Whenever a new Avaya S8700 media server is installed, it must be configured to bring it into service. Software upgrades may also introduce new fields or features, requiring you to revisit the Configuration Wizard; see Software installation at a glance for details.

To configure an Avaya media server:

  1. Know the type of server configuration you are bringing into service (IP-connect or multi-connect), and whether it is intended to support duplex, high, or critical reliability. See Configuration overview for details.

  2. Complete the preinstallation worksheet. Allow up to 4 hours to fill this out the first time. You must work with the customer's LAN administrator to get the correct information.

  3. Connect your laptop to the server's services Ethernet interface.

  4. Open your Internet browser, and log in to the server using IP address http://192.11.13.6

  5. For a server that was previously in use: If you are reconfiguring a media server that has already been configured for another site, first use the Reset to defaults screen to reset the server's values to their default configuration before proceeding.

Failure to reset the defaults on a previously used server could cause IP address conflicts if a software upgrade does not go smoothly. Always reset the defaults to prevent possible disastrous consequences.

  1. In the main menu under Server Configuration and Upgrades, click the Configure Server link.

  2. The Configuration Wizard appears in a new window. Complete all the screens in order in a single session. If you log off or time-out, you will lose the information and have to begin again.

  3. For new duplex systems: After you configure the first server, you must configure the second server as follows:

  4. If you install new software on the media servers, it is possible that the software will change some of the configuration fields or screens.

  5. When finished, complete any required network administration.
