Release 5/6/7/8csi to R9csi

This section provides information for upgrading a DEFINITY ECS Release 6csi, Release 7csi, or Release 8csi to a Release 9csi. As part of this upgrade, you must replace the TN798/B Processor with a TN2402 Processor.

Note: Releases 5, 6, 7, and 8 formatted translation cards are compatible for read-only operations with Release 9 systems. New formatted translation cards are shipped with each upgrade.

Refer to the DEFINITY Enterprise Communications Server Maintenance for R9csi book for changing the processor circuit pack.

The DEFINITY ECS system description lists release features and functions. The DEFINITY ECS administrator's guide provides the commands and procedures required to initialize and administer the ECS. These documents are included in the DEFINITY Enterprise Communications Server Documentation Library published in CD-ROM.

Before you begin the upgrade

Review the Preparation and process steps carefully. These tables describe the tasks that must be completed before the upgrade visit and who is responsible for them.

To prevent the most common upgrade problems, be sure that you have checked for software upgrade compatibility and identified any patches that need to be re-applied

Task List: R6csi, R7csi, and R8csi to R9si

Ensure that these tasks are complete before the upgrade visit:

  1. Verify the required hardware [R9csi]

  2. Provide the required tools [R9csi]

Perform these tasks during the upgrade visit:

  1. Check SPE [R9csi]

  2. Verify Software Version [R9csi] and identify any software patches.

  3. Verify System Status [R9csi] and record any customer-placed busy-outs.

  4. Disable Scheduled Maintenance and Alarm Origination to INADS [R9csi]

  5. Check Link Status [R9csi]

  6. Check IP Softphones (R8 to R9 only) [R9csi]

  7. If the Terminal Translation Initialization (TTI) is enabled, Disable TTI [R9csi] (Do not skip this step!)

  8. Translations can be corrupted if TTI is enabled. Confirm that TTI is completely disabled before you continue!

  9. Save translation to the original translation flashcard [R9csi]

  10. Save Announcements (if necessary) [R9csi]

  11. For systems so equipped: Shut Down DEFINITY AUDIX System [R9csi] and any other adjuncts

  12. Replace Circuit Packs [R9csi]

  13. Display Memory-Configuration [R9csi]

  14. Set Daylight Savings Rules [R9csi]

  15. Set Date and Time [R9csi]

  16. Verify the Upgrade [R9csi]

  17. If TTI was disabled, Readminister TTI [R9csi]

  18. Enable Scheduled Maintenance and Alarm Notification [R9csi]. If you changed scheduled maintenance parameters, restore the original values now.

  19. Enable Customer Options and Alarm Origination to INADS [R9csi] Check IP softphones here (R8 to R9 only).

  20. Verify Link Status [R9csi]

  21. For systems so equipped: Power Up DEFINITY AUDIX System [R9csi] and any other adjuncts

  22. Resolve Alarms [R9csi]

  23. If you saved announcements, Restore Announcements [R9csi]

  24. Check SPE [R9csi]

  25. Install R9csi translation card [R9csi]

  26. Save Translations to R9 flashcard [R9csi]

  27. Save Announcements, if necessary [R9csi] (optional for TN750C)

  28. Return Equipment [R9csi]
