Replacing the LED panel or cable

You can replace the front LED panel or its motherboard cable on an S3400-H:

Replacing the motherboard to LED panel cable

The front LED panel cable connection varies depending on the type of motherboard that is in the server.

To replace the motherboard to LED panel cable:

  1. Verify that the replacement equipment is on site and appears to be in usable condition, with no obvious damage.
  2. Shut down the system and unplug the AC power cords.
  3. Remove the front bezel and top cover.
  4. Remove the circuit card hold-down bracket.
  5. Remove the old motherboard to LED panel flat ribbon cable as follows. See Replacing the motherboard to LED panel cable.
    1. Open the tie-down strap that dresses the cables to the front LED panel.
    2. Unplug the 16-pin ribbon cable from the J4 connector on the LED panel.
    3. Remove the cable from the tie-down strap.
    4. Unplug the other end of the cable from the J8H1 Front Panel connector on the motherboard.
      • Nonintegrated video and LAN model: Unplug the ribbon cable from the J8H1 Front Panel connector.
      • Unplug the ribbon cable from the translator board.
    5. Note how cable is dressed behind or under the motherboard.
    6. Remove the old cable. Set it aside.
  6. Install the new cable by reversing the removal steps (see Step 5).

Note: For the nonintegrated video and LAN model, fold the replacement cable like the old one to dress it under the motherboard.

  7. Replace the circuit card hold-down bracket.
  8. Replace the top cover and front bezel.
  9. Restore power to the system.
  10. If the system boots correctly, the new cable should be working.
