System 75 Small-Cabinet to R8si (Blowback)

This section provides the information necessary to upgrade a small-cabinet R1V3 System 75 system to either a standard-reliability DEFINITY ® R8si PPN (control-carrier replacement) or a multi-carrier R8si PPN with standard or critical reliability (cabinet replacement).


Note: You upgrade the System 75 small-cabinet J58890AA or J58890AB carrier to the R7si/R8si J58890AH carrier.

Before you begin the upgrade

Review the Preparation and process steps carefully. These tables describe the tasks that must be completed before the upgrade visit and who is responsible for them.

To prevent the most common upgrade problems, be sure that you have

Task List: System 75 Small Cabinet to R8si

Ensure that these tasks are complete before the upgrade visit:

  1. Verify the required hardware for a control-carrier replacement [75 small upgrade] or
    Verify the required hardware for a control cabinet replacement [75 small upgrade]

  2. Provide the required tools [75 small upgrade]

Perform these tasks during the upgrade visit:

  1. Inspect the new control carrier and install CURL [75 small upgrade] or Unpack the control cabinet and inspect for damage [75 small upgrade]

  2. Verify software load [75 small upgrade]

  3. Verify system status [75 small upgrade] Record any customer-placed busy-outs.

  4. Save translations [75 small upgrade]

  5. Verify external alarm connections; modify cabling if necessary [75 small upgrade]

  6. Label cables [75 small upgrade]

  7. For systems so equipped:

  8. Power down [75 small upgrade]

  9. Disconnect power and grounding [75 small upgrade]

  10. Verify power failure [75 small upgrade] if the system uses power failure stations

  11. Open/remove doors and panels [75 small upgrade]

  12. Disconnect TDM cables [75 small upgrade]

  13. Remove circuit packs (A carrier only) [75 small upgrade] or Remove circuit packs (A and B carriers) [75 small upgrade]

  14. Remove tape drive [75 small upgrade]

  15. Remove control carrier A [75 small upgrade]

  16. Prepare and install new control carrier [75 small upgrade]

  17. Install new control cabinet [75 small upgrade] or Install new control cabinet with earthquake protection [75 small upgrade]

  18. Install circuit packs [75 small upgrade]

  19. Move 25-pair cables from System 75 to R8si [75 small upgrade]

  20. Install TDM/LAN bus terminators and connect cables [75 small upgrade] (The multi-carrier cabinet requires the new ZAHF4 TDM bus terminators. Do not skip this!)

  21. Connect power and grounding [75 small upgrade]

  22. Close upgraded PPN stack without earthquake protection [75 small upgrade] or Close upgraded PPN stack with earthquake protection [75 small upgrade]

  23. Install cable clamps [75 small upgrade]

  24. Verify TDM cables and connectors [75 small upgrade]. If new TDM terminators and cables are required but have not yet been installed, install them now.

  25. Power up and set date, time and daylight savings rule [75 small upgrade]

  26. Enable customer option and alarm origination [75 small upgrade] (You identify the upgrade as R7 or R8 here.)

  27. Verify the upgrade [75 small upgrade]

  28. Restore any customer-placed busy-outs before you run the acceptance tests!

  29. Run acceptance tests [75 small upgrade]

  30. Re-enable alarm reporting

  31. Readminister translation [75 small upgrade] if necessary

  32. Rerecord announcements [75 small upgrade]

  33. Save announcements and translation [75 small upgrade]

  34. Register the upgraded switch [75 small upgrade]

  35. Return equipment to MSL [75 small upgrade]
