Install and Connect Single-Carrier Cabinets

This section describes how to install the Single-Carrier Cabinets. For information on Multicarrier Cabinets, go to Install and Connect Multi-Carrier Cabinets.

Floor plans and equipment layouts for typical system installations are provided in DEFINITY Enterprise Communications Server System Description.

For duplicated systems only: Install Fiber Optic Cable Pass-Thru Kit (Single-Carrier Cabinets) includes instructions for installing the fiber optic cable between the duplication interface circuit packs in cabinets A and B.

Task List: Install and Connect Single-Carrier Cabinets

Perform these tasks before you begin the installation:

  1. Check Customer's Order

  2. Unpack and Inspect Cabinets

  3. If you cannot get timing from the service provider, you may need to install a Stratum 3 clock. If this system includes a Stratum 3 clock, go to Installing the Stratum 3 Clock for instuctions.

  4. Check Circuit Packs

  5. Correct Shipping Errors

Perform these steps to install the cabinets:

  1. Position the Cabinets (Standard Reliability) or Position Cabinets (High or Critical Reliability)

  2. If required, Install Earthquake Protection for SCC


Caution! System grounding must comply with the general rules for grounding contained in Article 250 of the National Electrical Code (NEC), National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) 70, or the applicable electric code in the country containing the equipment.

  1. Ground DC-Powered Cabinets and Connect DC Power or Ground and Connect AC-Powered Cabinets

  2. If the cabinet stack contains more than one Single-Carrier Cabinet, Connect Time Division Multiplexing Bus Cables

  3. Verify Port Cabinet Address Plugs

  4. Install Rear Panels

  5. Install Rear Ground Plates (Systems with Earthquake Protection) or Install Front Ground Plates (Systems with Radiation Shielding and Earthquake Protection) or Install Cabinet Clips (Systems without Earthquake Protection)

  6. Connect System Cables
