G3iV4 to R10si (On-Site)

Introduction

This section provides the information necessary to upgrade a DEFINITY ® G3iV4 system with a single-carrier or a multicarrier PPN to a DEFINITY R10si system using the on-site upgrade method.

References

For hardware details, see DEFINITY Enterprise Communications Server System Description and When to use the TN2401 versus the TN2401/TN2400 sandwich pack.

About circuit-pack carriers

If the system currently being upgraded was originally a System 75, the circuit-pack carrier or cabinet is no longer supported. This table identifies the obsolete carriers and cabinet.

Upgrade from
to

J58890AA
J58890AB
(originally System 75 small-cabinet carriers)

J58890AH carrier

J58890G
(originally System 75XE cabinet)

J58890L cabinet

Note: In some previous upgrades, the control cabinet or carrier replacement was optional. The replacement is required for this upgrade. Use the upgrade instructions in this section, but refer to the System 75 Small-Cabinet to R8si (Blowback) upgrade for instructions on replacing the carrier, and the System 75 XE to R8si (Blowback) upgrade for instructions on replacing the cabinet.

Before you begin the upgrade

Review the Preparation and process steps carefully. These tables describe the tasks that must be completed before the upgrade visit and who is responsible for them.

To prevent the most common upgrade problems, be sure that you have

Task List: G3iV4 to R10si

Use this task list when you are upgrading a DEFINITY G3iV4 PPN to an R10si PPN.

Ensure that these tasks are complete before the upgrade visit:

  1. Verify the required hardware [G3V4 to R10si]

  2. Provide the required tools [G3V4 to R10si]

  3. Go to the RFA website

Perform these tasks during the upgrade visit:

  1. Duplicate switch's system software

  2. Check existing software load [G3V4 to R10si] to identify any software patches.

  3. Verify system status [G3V4 to R10si] Record any customer-placed busy-outs.

  4. Disable scheduled maintenance and alarm origination [G3V4 to R10si]

  5. Record all links and remove only ISDN interface links [G3V4 to R10si]

  6. Disable TTI [G3V4 to R10si] if it is enabled. Do not skip this step!

  7. Translations can be corrupted if TTI is enabled. Confirm that TTI is completely disabled before you continue!

  8. Save translation [G3V4 to R10si] or Save translation, duplicated system [G3V4 to R10si]

  10. For systems so equipped: Shut down DEFINITY LAN Gateway [G3V4 to R10si]

  11. For systems so equipped: Shut down DEFINITY AUDIX system [G3V4 to R10si]

  12. Power down PPN [G3V4 to R10si] and unseat any adjuncts

Note: If a cabinet or carrier upgrade is required, do it now!

Note: Any BX.25 adjunct links to adjuncts (for example, CMS, AUDIX, INTUITY, or others) that are to be retained will still reside on the existing TN765 processor interface (P/I) in the designated P/I slot.

  1. Remove translation card and CPP1, TN777B, and TN786B circuit packs [G3V4 to R10si]

  2. Install TN2404 and TN2401 circuit packs and original translation card [G3V4 to R10si]

  3. Verify TDM cables and terminators [G3V4 to R10si]. If new TDM terminators and cables are required, install them now.

  4. Power up [G3V4 to R10si]

  5. Install or Deliver the License File [R10si]

  6. Administer No-License/Emergency Numbers [R10si]

  9. Check customer options [G3V4 to R10si] (You identify the upgrade as R10 here.)

  10. Verify the upgrade [G3V4 to R10si]

  11. If the system contains adjuncts such as DEFINITY AUDIX, reseat them as required before you run the acceptance tests.

  12. Restore busyouts [G3V4 to R10si]

  13. Run acceptance tests [G3V4 to R10si]

  14. Enable TTI [G3V4 to R10si]

  15. Enable Scheduled Maintenance and Alarm Notification [G3V4 to R10si]

  16. Register the switch for maintenance [G3V4 to R10si]

  17. Restore announcements (TN750 or TN750B only) [G3V4 to R10si] or Rerecord announcements [G3V4 to R10si] as necessary.

  18. Replace the pre-R5 translation card with the new R10 translation card and Save announcements and translation (TN750 or TN750B only) [G3V4 to R10si] (For duplicated systems, first verify that both SPEs are functional and can be interchanged. For instructions on how to verify, refer to Save translation, duplicated system [G3V4 to R10si].)
