System 75 XE to R8si (Blowback)

This section provides the instructions for an upgrade from an R1V3 System 75 XE system to a DEFINITY ® Release 8si system. This upgrade includes a control-cabinet replacement.


Note: You upgrade the System 75XE J58890G cabinet by completely replacing it with the R8si J58890L cabinet.

Before you begin the upgrade

Review the Preparation and process steps carefully. These tables describe the tasks that must be completed before the upgrade visit and who is responsible for them.

To prevent the most common upgrade problems, be sure that you have

Task List: System 75 XE to R8si

Use this task list to upgrade a System 75 XE to R8si. Steps are provided for

Ensure that these tasks are complete before the upgrade visit:

  1. Verify the required hardware [75 XE upgrade]

  2. Provide the required tools [75 XE upgrade]

Perform these tasks during the upgrade visit:

  1. Unpack and inspect control cabinet for damage [75 XE upgrade]

  2. Verify software load [75 XE upgrade]

  3. Verify system status [75 XE upgrade] Record any customer-placed busy-outs.

  4. Disable scheduled maintenance and alarm origination [75 XE upgrade]

  5. Save translations to tape [75 XE upgrade]

  6. Verify power and grounding and check for power transfer stations [75 XE upgrade]

  7. Modify external alarm connections [75 XE upgrade]

  8. Label cables [75 XE upgrade]

  9. For systems so equipped: Shut down DEFINITY AUDIX system [75 XE upgrade]

  10. Power down PPN [75 XE upgrade]

  11. Disconnect power and grounding and SAT terminal [75 XE upgrade]

  12. Verify power failure stations (if present) [75 XE upgrade]

  13. Remove door and panels [75 XE upgrade] (EPN only)

  14. Remove circuit packs from the carrier [75 XE upgrade]

  15. Disconnect TDM cables [75 XE upgrade]

  16. Remove the control cabinet [75 XE upgrade]

  17. Install new control cabinet [75 XE upgrade] or Install new control cabinet with earthquake protection [75 XE upgrade]

  18. Install enhanced control cabinet (duplicated system) [75 XE upgrade]

  19. Install port cabinets [75 XE upgrade]

  20. Install circuit packs into the port cabinets [75 XE upgrade] (If a TN2182 is installed, do not reinstall the TN756.)

  21. Change cabinet address plugs [75 XE upgrade] (PPN upgrade only)

  22. Move 25-pair cables from System 75 to R8si [75 XE upgrade]

  23. Install TDM/LAN bus terminators [75 XE upgrade]

  24. Connect TDM/LAN cables and ICC cables for PPN Upgrade [75 XE upgrade]

  25. Connect TDM/LAN Cables and ICC Cables for EPN Upgrade [75 XE upgrade]

  26. Interconnect Port Networks - Dual cabinet (EPN) upgrade only [75 XE upgrade]

  27. Install ground plate(s) [75 XE upgrade] (skip this step if Earthquake protection is used)

  28. Install cabinet clip(s) [75 XE upgrade] (skip this step if Earthquake protection is used)

  29. Verify TDM cables and connectors [75 XE upgrade]. If new TDM terminators and cables are required but have not yet been installed, install them now.

  30. Connect power and grounding and the SAT terminal [75 XE upgrade]

  31. Close PPN stack without earthquake protection [75 XE upgrade] or Close PPN stack with earthquake protection [75 XE upgrade]

  32. Install cable clamps [75 XE upgrade]

  33. Power up and set date, time, and daylight savings rule [75 XE upgrade]

  34. Enable customer options and alarm origination [75 XE upgrade] (You identify the upgrade as R7 or R8 here.)

  35. Verify the upgrade [75 XE upgrade]

  36. Restore any customer-placed busy-outs before you run the acceptance tests!

  37. Run acceptance tests [75 XE upgrade]

  38. Re-enable alarm reporting

  39. If you changed scheduled maintenance parameters, restore the original values.

  40. Retranslate port circuits [75 XE upgrade] if necessary

  41. Readminister translation [75 XE upgrade] if necessary

  42. Rerecord announcements [75 XE upgrade]

  43. Save announcements and translation [75 XE upgrade]

  44. Register the upgraded switch [75 XE upgrade]

  45. Return equipment to MSL [75 XE upgrade]
