This topic provides information on migrating a Message Networking
Release 2.0 from the S3210 hardware or the S3400-H (nonintegrated video and LAN) hardware to the S3400-H (integrated video and LAN) hardware. It
is strongly recommended that you plan to do the upgrade during low
usage hours.
Important! The following data is not
migrated to the Message Networking Release 2.0 system on the new
hardware:
- Messages in queue
- Administration and maintenance logs
Notes:
To migrate the Message Networking hardware, you must perform the
following steps:
- Log in as craft (for Avaya Global Services) or dadmin (for Avaya
Business Partners).
- If the Message Networking system supports analog protocols,
record the type of switch connection software currently installed
on the system. To do this:
- Start at the Administration main menu and select Utilities
> Software Management >
System Software Display.
- When the results displays, record the Switch integration
type, either LANset or SWINset.
- Click Return to Main to return to the Administration
main menu.
- Record the settings of each field on the Networking Addressing
page. To access the Network Addressing page, start at the Administration
main menu and select Basic System Administration >
TCP/IP Administration > Network Addressing.
- Perform an attended system backup.
- Shut down the Message Networking Release
2.0 system.
- Remove power from the Message Networking system and disconnect
it from the network.
- Complete the preinstallation requirements
for the new S3400-H.
- Unpack the system.
- Identify the server components.
- Install the UPS and optional EBMs.
- For analog system, you might need to transfer the installed
analog port boards from the S3210/3400-H (nonintegrated video and LAN) server to the S3400-H (integrated video and LAN) server:
- If one or two analog port boards are installed in the S3210/S3400-H (nonintegrated video and LAN)
server, transfer the boards to the S3400-H (integrated video and LAN) server. Follow
the steps for Replacing an analog
port board.
- If three analog port boards are installed in the S3210/S3400-H (nonintegrated video and LAN) server,
do not transfer the boards to the S3400-H (integrated video and LAN) server. The S3400-H
(integrated video and LAN) server will be shipped with a 12-port board instead.
- Attach the front bezel.
- Set up the server in a rack-mount
or stackable setup.
- Connect the power cables.
- Connect the port boards.
- Connect the monitor, keyboard, and mouse.
- Connect the Message Networking server
to the LAN.
- Connect the RMB.
- Power up the system.
- Log into the system from the console.
- Set the time and date.
- Install additional language software
(if needed).
- Install the switch connection
software (required for analog systems).
- Check the system status.
- Activate the modem/terminal.
- Set up network addressing using
the information you recorded from the Network Addressing page
on the Message Networking Release 2.0 system.
- Reboot the system.
- Restore the backed up files.
- Log in to the system.
- Run an update to and from
all remote networked machines to correct any database inconsistencies.
- Click Return to Main to return to the Administration
menu.
- Register the upgraded system.
