System installation checklist

This installation checklist provides descriptions of the required procedures, in sequence, to use when you install an assembled, loaded, and tested (ALT) Avaya Message Networking system.

The following table provides a checklist for system installation.

Task Description Comments and links
Complete preinstallation planning:  
1. Complete the Message Networking Release 2.0 planning forms. It is critical that you complete the provided planning forms to successfully install a Message Networking system. This task requires consultation with the customer and the responsible LAN, switch, and remote system administrators. The Message Networking planning forms are included on the documentation CD-ROM under Reference.  
2. Assemble and review the required documentation. Web access required.  
3. Review security requirements.    
4. Arrange for administration of the LAN for the Message Networking server. Some LANs can be administered in advance; others require that new machine administration be performed at the time of the installation. See the Preinstallation requirements for the required initial LAN administration.

Note: Avaya Inc. is not responsible for the installation, administration, or test of communication between customer PCs and the LAN.

 
5. Verify that the switch is administered. (Required for sites using analog.) See the switch administrator at the customer site to verify that the switch is administered for Message Networking. See the Preinstallation requirements for the required initial switch administration.  
6. Review demarcation points.    
7. Gather the required tools and test equipment.    
Install the hardware:  
8. Review the site requirements. This includes:  
9. Unpack the system. Open boxes as instructed to save packing materials.  
10. Identifying the server and components.    
11. Place the chassis in the designated operating area.    
12. Install the UPS and optional EBMs. S3400-H and S3210R  
11. Installing the server.

Complete installation tasks:  
12. Power up the system.    
13. Log into the system from the console.    
14. Set the time and date.    
15. Install additional language software    
16. Install the switch connection software.    
17. Check the system status.    
18. Configuring the modem/terminal.    
19. Set up network addressing.    
20. Reboot the system. Reboot the system now to make sure that it is working correctly. Once the reboot completes, proceed with the initial system administration.  
Perform initial system administration and acceptance testing:  
21. Administer the dadmin login (optional). Administer the dadmin login to provide Business Partners with craft-like administrative access to the system. You must logged in as craft to administer the dadmin login.  
22. Perform Initial system administration. Follow the initial system administration procedure for a complete listing of pages and screens to be completed.  
23. Perform System acceptance testing.    
24. Register the system.    

Notes:

  • If you require changes to the features activated on the system, you must contact Avaya technical support. Right-to-use activations are only completed Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 7 p.m., EST. Make sure you have the following information available:
    • Business Partner name, if applicable
    • Order Number for Message Networking. If SMTP/MIME is purchased through Modular Messaging, you also need Order Number for Modular Messaging
    • Remote log-in information
  • If you intend to use the attended high-availability option supported by Message Networking for disaster recovery, you must install the secondary Message Networking system. See Attended high-availability option overview for information.
